Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasiya is one of the most revered and respected flute maestros in the world today. Hailing from Allahabad, Pt. Hariprasad started learning music although his father wanted him to become a wrestler. He attributes his stamina and strength while playing the flute to the early years that he spent practising as a wrestler. Up to the age of 15, he trained to be a vocalist, but later on switched to flute. He is amongst those fortunate Shishyas of classical music who have learnt sangeet vidya from none other than Maa Annapurna Devi, the reclusive maestro of Indian classical music.

He is an outstanding solo performer and has also accompanied some of the best performers of Indian and Western Music. He is amongst those who are instrumental in popularizing Indian Classical Music throughout the world. He was earlier employed with All India Radio, but left the job in pursuit of an independent career as a musician. His talents and sustained efforts paid off and he soon became one of the most recognized performers in the country.

Apart from being amongst the most accomplished flutists of the world, he is also a venerated teacher who has trained over 1500 shishyas throughout the world. He is also an outstanding music composer, having composed music for many films along with the renowned Santoor maestro Pt. Shivkumar Sharma. The duo of Shiv-Hari has many award winning films to their credit.

Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasiya is an extremely decorated musician, having received the Padma Bhushan and
Padma Vibhushan from the Government of India and also the Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters by the Republic of France.
