I was surprised to see that Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad has built such a magnificent academy for the propagation of music with all the facilities. I thought, if he is willing to make such a huge contribution to Indian classical music, then I too should put in my little share in it. I approached both Dr. Vishwanath Karad and his son Mr Rahul Karad to adopt the Gurukul style of teaching in this academy. They appreciated the idea and gave me the responsibility of implementing this system and to identify the gurus for the same.
I am acquainted with most of the leading performers of India as I have been organizing music programs for the last 33 years. The Gurus who will be a part of the Vishwashanti Sangeet Kala Academy are themselves some of the most respected individuals in their respective fields, who are also interested in nurturing shishyas in traditional Indian classical music. The process of bringing together such high talent took some time, but now it can be safely said that Vishwashanti Sangeet Kala Academy is slated to be the best Gurukul perhaps in the world for Indian classical music.
Some of the maestros of Indian classical music have been trained under the venerated Guru-Shishya tradition of India. They practiced, they listened, they absorbed the vast treasure of knowledge possessed by the guru by constantly being in his company and then they mastered the art. I firmly believe that the best artistes are made this way. The aim of our academy is to create maybe a chosen few, but the best artistes of Indian classical music.
Things like degree certificates, syllabus, curriculum etc. are not of any use while studying Indian classical music. The best way to learn it is by staying constantly in the company of the guru, practicing hour on end, toiling hard to master its finest nuances and nurture one’s own self as an artiste. Thus, the shishya will be a true ‘performer artiste’ and this is what Vishwashanti Sangeet Kala Academy aims to achieve.
I request you all to encourage this endeavour and wish us the very best in our quest for creating the best artistes of Indian classical music.
